Chartwell House Celebrates Glowing CQC Inspection

Chartwell House celebrates first CQC inspection with Good in all areas, highlighting personalised care, community focus, and compassionate leadership.

Chartwell House by Boutique Care Homes, Broadstairs, is proud to announce the publication of its first Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, receiving a Good rating overall and Good in every key area: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-Led.

Opened in 2023, Chartwell House has quickly established itself as a trusted, award-winning and vibrant part of the Broadstairs community. This first inspection from the CQC reflects the team’s unwavering commitment to delivering compassionate, personalised care in a warm and inclusive environment.

The CQC found that the provider “always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity.” People were seen “relaxed and happy in the company of staff,” with inspectors observing warm conversations and genuine connection. Relatives also praised the team’s attentiveness and kindness. One said: “They always come and say hello, have a chat and ask me how I am doing. They are so nice.” Another shared: “They do make a fuss of them, and they love it.”

Diane Collins, Home Manager at Chartwell House, said: “This is a moment of pride for everyone at Chartwell House. I am so proud of the team and all they do every day to make our home so special. We always strive to create a culture of warmth, dignity and respect, and I am delighted this has been recognised by the CQC.”

Inspectors noted that the provider promoted people’s independence and wellbeing, supporting individuals to live healthier lives while ensuring care planning was holistic, reflecting each person’s background, preferences and beliefs. The CQC highlighted the Life Enrichment Programme and the home’s thoughtful, individualised activities, which included painting and board games tailored to each person’s interests and physical capabilities.

The daily dining experience also received praise. Inspectors noted that the chef “spent time with people checking they were happy with their meals and offering second helpings.” Residents confirmed they liked the food and were always offered enough to eat. This attention to detail reflects the home’s ethos of care that nurtures both body and spirit.

Chartwell House’s use of the person-centred observation and reflection tool (PORT) to support people living with dementia was highlighted as a positive innovation. The CQC also reported that people “were given support to plan for important life changes,” including at the end of life, ensuring they could make informed and supported decisions.

Leadership was another area of strength. Inspectors found that the provider had “inclusive leaders at all levels who understood the context in which they delivered care” and “embodied the culture and values of their workforce.” The service was described as “proactive and positive,” with a culture of safety built on “openness and honesty.”

Ameet Kotecha, Founder and Managing Director of Boutique Care Homes, commented; “Chartwell House embodies our vision of personalised, lifestyle-focused care. The CQC’s report confirms the impact of our incredible team, and the difference they make every day through their dedication to residents and their families.”

Community involvement was also celebrated, with the home praised for its links with local schools and its long-standing role in events like Broadstairs Folk Week. It was also recognised as a Veteran Friendly Care Home and hosts a range of inclusive support groups including the Sight Loss Club, Stroke Support Group and Coffee Connections.

Martin Murphy, Director of Operations at Boutique Care Homes, added; “This CQC outcome reflects the passion and professionalism of our team. Chartwell House is a home led with compassion, delivered with integrity, and grounded in genuine community connection.”
