Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkin to Visit Chartwell House
Chartwell House is excited to announce a very special visit on Tuesday, 19th March 2025. The Rt Revd Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Bishop of Dover and Bishop in Canterbury, will be joining us to lead a Church Service at 10:00 am, with one-to-one room visits starting from 9:00 am.
Bishop Rose’s remarkable journey has seen her serve as the former Chaplain to Her Majesty the Queen and become the first female Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons. She also had the distinct honour of participating in the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla in May 2023, presenting The Queen Consort’s Rod and being one of only five people to receive communion during the ceremony.
Beyond her impressive career, Bishop Rose is also the author of “Girl from Montego Bay: The Autobiography of Britain’s First Black Woman Bishop,” a powerful and inspiring account of her life and journey. Her visit to Chartwell House is a reflection of her commitment to bringing spiritual care beyond the traditional walls of a church, reaching out to individuals who may find it difficult to access such services.
At Chartwell House, we are proud to have witnessed how Judith Andrews of Anna Chaplaincy has been delivering exceptional spiritual support to our residents since our opening. Judith’s mission is to demonstrate the importance of providing spiritual services outside of churches, within communities, to meet the needs of a broader range of individuals who might otherwise struggle to access church services or emotional support. The spiritual care at Chartwell House has fostered a growing congregation, now including not just residents, but also families and staff on a routine basis.
Diane Collins, Home Manager at Chartwell House, shared her excitement for the event; “We are honoured to welcome Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkin to Chartwell House. Her legacy in spiritual leadership is an inspiration, and her visit will bring immense joy and comfort to our residents, families, and team. It’s an incredible opportunity to experience spiritual care that transcends traditional boundaries, and we look forward to celebrating this special occasion with everyone.”
The visit will begin with one-to-one room visits at 9:00 am, where Bishop Rose will have the opportunity to connect personally with residents. This will be followed by the church service at 10:00 am, where she will lead a meaningful and uplifting service for all in attendance. This event is a true celebration of the inclusive spiritual care that has been a cornerstone of Chartwell House since its opening.
We invite all families, residents, and team members to join us for this extraordinary occasion. It’s a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the importance of spiritual support in our lives and the role it plays in fostering a deep sense of community and belonging.
