Chartwell House Hosts Third Annual Classic Car Show
Chartwell House by Boutique Care Homes proudly hosted its third annual Classic Car Show, the home transformed into a vibrant celebration of automotive history, community, and nostalgia. This year’s event was help in partnership with Ramsgate Car Club and Academy FM, featuring classic cars but also exciting new additions of vintage Vespas and Lambrettas. The event was alive with the hum of engines, laughter, and stories from decades past, creating a warm and engaging atmosphere for residents and their families, as well as visitors and enthusiasts alike.
For many residents, the day was an opportunity to reminisce about times gone by. One resident, John, was particularly captivated by the display of Lambrettas and Vespas. John fondly recalled purchasing a Lambretta scooter while serving in Saigon during the Vietnam War for £80 – what a steal! “It was my main way of getting around,” John shared. “I rode it everywhere, and it felt like freedom.”
Lambretta scooters, alongside their Italian counterpart Vespas, were an iconic part of life in Saigon before the fall of the city in 1975. Favoured by college students, officers, and civilians alike, they were prized for their sturdy construction and practicality. Lambrettas were renowned for their complex engineering, making maintenance a challenge, particularly after the war when resources were scarce. Unlike the simpler Vespa, which could often be repaired with basic tools, Lambrettas required specialised parts and technical knowledge.
The Classic Car Show at Chartwell House offered a multi-sensory experience for attendees. The gentle hum of engines, polished chrome, and the distinctive silhouettes of vintage vehicles encouraged residents to share stories of their own automotive adventures. The third annual Classic Car Show demonstrated Chartwell House’s commitment to creating meaningful, engaging experiences for residents. By partnering with Ramsgate Car Club, the care home successfully brought together intergenerational visitors from young enthusiasts to older residents to share in the enjoyment of classic vehicles while celebrating stories that span decades.
“This event is about connection, storytelling, and community,” said Admissions Manager, Jude Coveney. “Seeing John and other residents light up with recognition and nostalgia reminds us why these events are so special. Vehicles like Lambrettas and Vespas aren’t just historical artifacts; they are touchstones of personal history and shared experience.”
The event concluded with a deeper sense of community, leaving attendees with new memories and renewed appreciation for the vehicles and experiences that have shaped
