Chartwell House Presents Dementia Friendly Folk: A Celebration of Music, Movement & Meaningful Connection
As Folk Week sweeps in with the sound of fiddles, flutes, and foot-tapping rhythms, we’re proud to be hosting a very special event that brings music, memories and meaningful connection for those living with dementia. The Dementia Friendly Folk is an award-winning initiative that brings the joy of traditional folk music and dance to everyone, with a special focus on making meaningful connection for those living with dementia. Since its launch in 2023, this heart warming event has continued to delight the community of Broadstairs that’s left a lasting impression on everyone who’s attended.
This August, Chartwell House in Broadstairs is taking part in Dementia Friendly Folk on 10th August 2025 at the Sarah Thorne Theatre. Chartwell House By Boutique Care Homes invites you to take part in our Dementia Friendly Folk Dance with Gentle Ceilidh with The Woodurchins and Caller Krista Bubble, a unique experience for the community to come together and celebrate Folk Week with our team from Chartwell House.
What Makes Dementia Friendly Folk, Dementia Friendly?
The event has been created with care to support those living with dementia, where they can experience:
- A calm and welcoming environment that encourages participation whether dancing or slow movements such as tapping to the rhythm, including humming or singing along.
- Gentle rhythmic music can help those living with dementia, encouraging memories from the past, feelings and emotions.
- Music also encourages gentle movement to support mobility, improves balance and coordination, as well as releasing feel good endorphins where everyone can experience a lifting mood reducing anxiety.
Chartwell House offers residential, dementia, and short stay care, delivered with a deep sense of purpose and warmth. The Dementia Friendly Folk celebrates those who love to dance but would appreciate a gentle pace.
Whether you’ve visited before or are stepping through our doors for the time, we’d be delighted to welcome you.
