Summer has arrived, and so has the latest edition of The Chartwell Post, packed with uplifting stories, achievements, and community spirit from life at Chartwell House.

This edition highlights our first Care Quality Commission inspection, where we were proud to be rated ‘Good’ in all areas. The report reflects the dedication, warmth and professionalism of the entire team, who work each day to ensure residents receive high-quality, person-centred care.

We’re also delighted to celebrate our national win at the Dementia Care Awards 2025 for our Dementia Friendly Folk Concert, created in partnership with Broadstairs Folk Week. The judges praised the event for its inclusive, community-led approach and its ability to create lasting, joyful connections through music.

One of the most inspiring stories in this edition comes from Peter Bashford. From a difficult start in life to a celebrated career in interior design, Peter’s journey is a powerful reflection of resilience, creativity and self-belief. His spiritual artworks now inspire others to see beauty in unexpected places.

This edition also features Pam’s recipe for traditional steamed pudding, a much-loved comfort classic, best enjoyed with custard. Pam even shares her tip for ensuring a soft, spongy result every time.
