Wills & LPAs: Free Legal Advice Session at Keymer Hall

Join Keymer Hall on 13 October for a free Wills & LPAs talk with Mayo Wynne Baxter lawyers, with clear, friendly guidance on later life legal planning.

Most people know they ought to sort out a Will or a Lasting Power of Attorney. Far fewer get round to it. The paperwork feels distant, the terminology is confusing, and it’s easy to put off a decision that doesn’t need making today, until suddenly it does. That’s the gap Keymer Hall’s next Keymer Conversations session is designed to close.

On Tuesday 13th October at 3pm, Keymer Hall is welcoming specialist later life lawyers Lauren Puttock-Brown and Tracy Rowden from Mayo Wynne Baxter for a session on Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney, and why both matter more than people often realise.

Why Wills and LPAs Matter

A Will decides where someone’s estate goes. A Lasting Power of Attorney decides who can act on their behalf if they’re ever unable to make decisions themselves, over money, property or health and welfare. Neither is only for later life, but both become more pressing with age, and both are easy to delay simply because nobody has explained, clearly and without jargon, what they actually involve.

That’s the gap Lauren and Tracy are there to fill. The session is designed as a conversation, not a lecture: practical guidance on how these documents protect a person’s wishes, delivered in plain language, with room to ask the questions that matter to each individual situation.

An Informal Setting, Not a Legal Lecture

Keymer Conversations exists to bring useful expertise to Keymer Hall’s doorstep in a setting that doesn’t feel intimidating. Past sessions have covered scam prevention with a local PCSO and falls prevention with a physiotherapist; this one follows the same format. There’s no formal presentation to sit through in silence. Attendees can ask about their own circumstances, raise concerns, and get advice tailored to later life planning specifically, not a generic overview.

“Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney can feel like one of those jobs people keep putting off, but good advice early on gives families real peace of mind,” says Christine Bunce, Home Manager at Keymer Hall. “That’s why we bring experts like Lauren and Tracy into Keymer Conversations: so our residents and the wider community have access to the kind of practical guidance that actually makes a difference.”

Open to Residents, Families and the Local Community

The session is free and open to anyone who wants to attend, whether that’s a Keymer Hall resident, a family member helping to plan ahead, or someone from the local Burgess Hill community who’s never visited the home before. No specialist knowledge is needed.
