Brampton Manor Celebrates World Book Day with Intergenerational Reading Sessions
Brampton Manor, part of the award-winning Boutique Care Homes group, marked World Book Day with two special intergenerational reading events, welcoming children from Fairstead House School in the morning and Clip Clop Nursery in the afternoon.
World Book Day, celebrated annually on the first Thursday in March, is the UK’s biggest celebration of books and reading. Designed to promote the joy of reading and help every child and young person find a book they’ll love, the day sees millions of children across the country dress up as their favourite characters and share stories together. At Brampton Manor, this national celebration took on special meaning as different generations came together through their shared love of storytelling.
Dressed in their favourite storybook costumes and clutching well-loved books, the young visitors brought excitement and energy to the Fordham Road care home, creating an atmosphere of genuine connection and shared joy with residents.
“The room was absolutely buzzing with enthusiasm,” said Valda, Head of Activities and Wellbeing at Brampton Manor. “Although it was the first time the Fairstead children had visited, you would never have known it. They seemed to gel straight away, as if they had been coming here for years. Residents and children bonded instantly over stories, reading together, chatting about favourite characters, and laughing. These moments are a lovely reminder of how powerful shared activities can be in sparking memories and creating natural connections between generations.”
The morning session with Fairstead House School, an independent school located just down the road on Fordham Road, saw children and residents pairing up naturally to share stories, with many residents visibly delighted to read aloud to their young companions. The afternoon welcomed little ones from Clip Clop Nursery, continuing the celebration with equal warmth and connection.
Akhi Goswami, Home Manager at Brampton Manor, reflected on the significance of the day: “Reading together encourages conversation, sparks memories, and creates natural connections between generations, which is such an important part of our Life Enrichment Programme here at Boutique Care Homes. The genuine joy on both the children’s and residents’ faces was wonderful to witness, it really was a fantastic morning and afternoon. We are already looking forward to welcoming the children and staff from both Fairstead School and Clip Clop Nursery back again soon.”
The World Book Day celebrations come just weeks after Brampton Manor won the prestigious Intergenerational Connections Award at the National Activity Awards 2026. The award recognises the home’s meaningful partnerships with local nurseries, schools, and youth groups, including regular sessions with Clip Clop Nursery, Fairstead House School, St Louis Catholic Primary School, and Boogie Babies.
The reading sessions align with Boutique Care Homes’ Life Enrichment Programme, which is built on six wellbeing principles: Contribute, Grow, Reflect, Feel, Move, and Connect. Intergenerational activities form an important part of the programme, promoting social engagement and emotional wellbeing for residents while strengthening ties with the local Newmarket community.
