Football Fun at Chartwell House This June

Chartwell House in Broadstairs is celebrating Care Home Open Week with two free community events: World Cup Crafts on Tuesday 16th June and Football Memories on Thursday 18th June. Both run from 14:30 to 16:30 and are open to everyone. No booking required.

Care Home Open Week is a chance for care homes across the UK to open their doors and show the public what life really looks like inside. At Chartwell House, we’re marking it with two events that bring people together across generations, through football, creativity, and the kind of memories that never really fade.

Here’s what’s on.

World Cup Crafts

Tuesday 16th June, 14:30–16:30

This one is for everyone, young and not so young.

On Tuesday 16th June, we’re hosting an intergenerational World Cup Crafts session at Chartwell House. You’ll get to make your own flags, design a fantasy football shirt, and spend a couple of hours being creative with people from all walks of life.

It’s relaxed, it’s fun, and no artistic experience is required. Whether you’re coming with grandchildren, a neighbour, or just by yourself, you’ll find a warm welcome and a table ready for you.

The session runs from 14:30 to 16:30. Just come along.

Football Memories

Thursday 18th June, 14:30–16:30

Two days later, we’re doing something a little more reflective.

Football Memories is an event built around sporting nostalgia and its connection to dementia care. There’ll be football memorabilia to discover, a quiz with prizes, and ‘Match Day’ themed refreshments to enjoy while you browse and reminisce.

For many people living with dementia, memories tied to sport, music, and shared experiences hold a special kind of power. This event is a celebration of that, and an invitation to the wider community to come and understand more about the care we provide at Chartwell House.

Whether you have a personal connection to dementia or simply love football and a good quiz, you’re welcome here.

The session runs from 14:30 to 16:30.

Come and See Us

Care Home Open Week is a national campaign that invites the public into care homes across the UK, to break down barriers and challenge misconceptions about what care home life looks like today.

Both events are free and open to the whole community. If you’ve ever been curious about what Chartwell House is like, this is a great chance to come and find out for yourself: meet the team, see the home, and enjoy a couple of hours with good company.
