Local Charity Brings Lego Magic to Brampton Manor Residents

Brampton Manor celebrates National Lego Day with Epic Dad charity, bringing generations together days after winning Intergenerational Connections Award.

Award-winning care home strengthens intergenerational connections through partnership with Newmarket charity

Just days after winning the prestigious Intergenerational Connections Award at the National Activity Awards 2026, Brampton Manor in Newmarket proved exactly why it deserved the honour. On 28th January, the home marked National Lego Day with a special Lego Club session, welcoming local charity founder Rich from Epic Dad to bring residents and young people together.

Epic Dad has become a familiar and treasured presence at Brampton Manor. The charity, which provides support for families across Suffolk and Newmarket, has helped bring Lego building to the heart of the home’s activities programme. For residents, the sessions offer more than just creative fun, they create moments of genuine connection across generations.

“Creating strong links with our community and young people of our town is a vital part of life here at Brampton Manor,” said Valda Rayner, Head of Lifestyle and Wellbeing at Brampton Manor. “The work Rich does with Epic Dad deserves so much recognition. It provides incredible support for families across the county, and we’re proud to be part of that.”

The National Lego Day celebration was particularly meaningful for several residents. Joan, who joined Brampton Manor earlier this year, has always shown a deep love of working with children throughout her life. Watching her engage with young visitors during the Lego Club brought that passion back to life in a way that lit up the room.

For David Sheppard and his family, the session sparked treasured memories. David’s daughter reminisced about building Lego sets together when they were younger, how the bricks have evolved over the years and become a worldwide favourite. Reconnecting over Lego once again brought nothing but joy and laughter for the family.

“Seeing residents and families reconnect through something as simple as building together reminds us why we do what we do,” Valda added. “These moments lift our spirits and create memories that can be revisited time and again.”

The session is part of Brampton Manor’s Life Enrichment Programme, which is built on six principles of wellbeing: Contribute, Grow, Reflect, Feel, Move, and Connect. Through intergenerational activities like the Lego Club, residents connect with their community, contribute by sharing their experiences, and grow by learning new skills alongside younger generations.

Danny Harris, Admissions Manager at Brampton Manor, said: “When families visit us, they often ask what makes Brampton Manor different. It’s moments like these, watching residents light up as they build Lego alongside children from our community. That’s the heart of what we offer. These connections bring real joy and purpose to our residents’ days, and families can see that immediately.”

Akhi Goswami, Home Manager at Brampton Manor, added: “Our partnership with Epic Dad shows what’s possible when care homes truly embed themselves in their local community. Every member of our care team across all floors was involved in making this event special. Winning the Intergenerational Connections Award just days before this event was wonderful recognition, but it’s moments like these that truly matter, creating an environment where meaningful connections happen naturally, enriching the lives of everyone who calls Brampton Manor home.”

The partnership with Epic Dad also helps the charity reach more people across the town and surrounding area. By hosting regular sessions at Brampton Manor, Epic Dad gains a space to expand its work and bring people of all ages together.

The recent National Activity Awards win recognises Brampton Manor’s commitment to bringing different generations together in meaningful ways. The award celebrates the home’s partnerships with local nurseries, schools, and community organisations, including Epic Dad, and the lasting impact these connections have on residents’ lives.
