Young Gardeners Sow Seeds of Joy at Brampton Manor

Brampton Manor Care Home in Newmarket welcomed pupils from Fairstead House for a joyful intergenerational gardening workshop, fostering community connection and resident wellbeing.

Brampton Manor Care Home in Newmarket, part of Boutique Care Homes, recently welcomed Year 1 pupils from Fairstead House for a joyful morning of gardening and connection—highlighting the power of community and the beauty of intergenerational moments.

On Friday 9th May, the home’s garden was brought to life as children joined residents to plant colourful flowers in Brampton Manor’s raised planters. The event marked another chapter in the home’s ongoing relationship with Fairstead House, built on a shared belief in the value of bringing generations together through meaningful activity.

Led by Activities Lead Valda and joined by several residents—including Jill, who was delighted to reconnect with the pupils—the morning was filled with conversation, shared laughter, and the calming rhythm of planting together.

To thank the children for their enthusiasm and inspire them to keep growing at home, each pupil received a packet of sunflower seeds—a small gift that added even more meaning to the experience.

“This year is especially meaningful as we prepare to open our garden to the public once again through the National Open Garden Scheme,” said Valda. “Knowing the children have played a part in shaping its beauty makes it even more special. They’ve truly left their mark.”

The children later sent a handmade thank-you card to the home. One message read, “Thank you for letting us grow plants with you,” while another simply said, “Thank you so very much for inviting us.”

Intergenerational activities like this offer a wide range of benefits—not only for residents, but for the young people involved. Time spent with older adults fosters empathy, confidence, and connection, while hands-on gardening encourages patience, teamwork, and a greater appreciation for nature.

At Brampton Manor, such experiences are a vital part of the Life Enrichment Programme—designed to support resident wellbeing and create opportunities for lasting, meaningful engagement. Offering residential, dementia, and short-stay care, the home embodies Boutique Care Homes’ belief in delivering care so good, it’s unexpected—a warm and loving family where everyone feels at home.
