The Burlington to Host Farm Experience for Surrey Children This Summer
Six weeks is a long time. If you’re a parent in Shepperton trying to keep children busy through the summer holidays without it costing a small fortune, we might have just the thing.
On Tuesday 18th August, we’re opening the garden at The Burlington for a Farm Experience fun day in partnership with Browells Wood Therapy. Animals to meet, games to play, and a proper afternoon out in the sun. Tickets are £5, and every penny goes to a cause close to our hearts.
What to expect on the day
From 11:00 to 15:00, the garden will be full of activity. Animals, outdoor games, fresh air, and the kind of relaxed afternoon where children are genuinely absorbed and parents can breathe for a bit. No screens, no queues, no overpriced entry fees. Just a good old-fashioned summer day out.
Sarah, our Head of Lifestyle and Wellbeing at The Burlington, explains why we wanted to make this happen:
“We’re really passionate about being part of this community, not just a care home within it. The summer holidays can be a tough time for families trying to keep children engaged, and we wanted to offer something genuinely fun and accessible. When Browells Wood Therapy came to us with their story, it felt like the perfect fit. A great day out for families in Shepperton, and a chance to rally around a cause that has given so much to people across Surrey.”
Who are Browells Wood Therapy?
Browells Wood Therapy has been supporting the Surrey community for over a decade. Their pet therapy animals visit people living with loneliness, mental health challenges, and isolation. That includes residents here at The Burlington, who genuinely look forward to those visits.
It’s not just a nice thing to do. Animal-assisted therapy has real, documented benefits: reduced anxiety, lower blood pressure, improved mood and overall wellbeing. For older people living in care, that kind of connection can make a meaningful difference to daily life.
Right now, Browells Wood Therapy is in trouble. Council restrictions mean they’re at risk of losing the base from which they operate. If that happens, the animals and all the good work they do in this community could disappear.
This event is our small way of helping them fight to stay.
