Cake Auction Helps Raise £300 at Chartwell House
Chartwell House by Boutique Care Homes, situated in Broadstairs, Kent, welcomed residents, families and team members together on Friday 25 September for its annual Macmillan Coffee Morning, a fixture in the home’s calendar and part of its ongoing commitment to supporting important causes and bringing the community together.
The morning brought cake, conversation and fundraising for people living with cancer, in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. Local bakery MMM Delicious backed the event with a discount on a selection of treats, including scone cake, cherry Bakewell cake, brownies and chocolate cupcakes, helping the home put more of the day’s takings towards the cause. Residents also sold mystery cookie boxes at £3 each, with tea and a biscuit shared between residents and team members throughout the morning.
“I feel incredibly proud to host our Macmillan Coffee Morning each year,” said Hollie Humphrey, Head of Lifestyle at Chartwell House. “Year on year, we continue to see more generosity and support, which really shows how much the fundraising we do at Chartwell House means to our residents, families and wider community.”
The centrepiece of the day was a showstopper cake, made by the home’s Head Chef, which went under the hammer in a blind bid auction. The winning bid of £58 came from a Chartwell House resident’s family member, who then donated the cake straight back to the home so residents on the first floor could enjoy it together after supper, turning the day’s biggest single donation into a shared moment for the people it was raised to support.
“I was also so proud to see our whole team getting involved,” Hollie added. “It was a wonderful example of what a whole-home approach to care looks like, with everyone coming together to support our residents, our community and such an important cause.”
As the event wound down, Hollie took the remaining cupcakes across to the Viking Ward at QEQM Hospital for the NHS staff working there. As she left, staff were already passing the box around.
By the end of the day, Chartwell House had raised over £300 for Macmillan Cancer Support, adding to a fundraising tradition the home returns to every year.
Days like this are why Chartwell House keeps this tradition going every year: residents, families and the team choosing to show up for each other and for a cause that matters. That’s care so good it speaks for itself.
