Carers’ Rights Day at Chartwell House
Chartwell House is opening its doors on Thursday 19th November for Carers’ Rights Day, a free event for anyone looking after a relative, partner or friend without pay. It runs from 10:00 to 12:00, and the aim is simple: put carers in the same room as the people who can help.
Questions answered, face to face
Caring tends to arrive without a manual. Unpaid carers are often left piecing together what they are entitled to, who to ask and where to turn when they need a break. On the day, local organisations will be at Chartwell House to talk through carers’ rights and the benefits that may be available, and to explain what respite options exist for time away from caring.
There will also be conversations about dementia support, health and wellbeing, and the local services that can make daily life easier. Visitors can meet professionals, ask the questions that have been on their mind and take home resources to read in their own time.
Everyone is welcome
This is an information and advice morning. Carers can chat over refreshments and speak to the organisations that matter most to them. Family members, friends supporting a loved one and members of the local community are all welcome too.
Chartwell House has a record of opening its doors to the Broadstairs community, and Carers’ Rights Day is part of that. Home Manager Clare Swan says the thinking behind it is straightforward.
“Carers give so much and very rarely ask for anything in return. We want Chartwell House to be a place where they can find help, and where looking after themselves feels like a perfectly good reason to come through the door.”
