VACHAS: Veterans Activity Centre Hythe and Saltwood 2026 /2027
The Veterans Activity Centre Hythe and Saltwood, known as VACHAS, meets at Martello Manor in Hythe on the third Tuesday of every month, from 10:00 to 14:00.
A place for the veterans community
VACHAS is the activity centre of the Hythe & Saltwood Branch Royal British Legion. Martello Manor is hosting it in association with the branch.
The idea is simple. Stop by for a brew, the papers and a game. There is no programme to follow and no need to stay for the whole four hours. The kettle is on all day, the newspapers are out, and there is a quiet corner for anyone who would rather sit and read.
Who it’s for
VACHAS is open to all veterans, serving personnel and their dependants. Whether you served last year or decades ago, and whether you come alone or with family, you are welcome to pull up a chair.
A member of the Royal British Legion branch will be on site at every session. They can talk through signposting and advice, or just have a chat over a cup of tea.
Hosted by Martello Manor
Visitors who would like to are welcome to look around the home while they are there.
Home Manager Marlene Abreu said:
“We wanted Martello Manor to be somewhere the local veterans community can simply walk in. In association with the Hythe and Saltwood branch of the Royal British Legion, we’ve made a warm room, a kettle that’s always on and time to talk. Come for a brew and a chat, and stay as long as you like.”
